Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Machinist to operate a variety of machines performing various assigned tasks. You will produce or repair precision parts using accurate measurements both with manual and automated equipment. A great machinist needs to possess manual dexterity and an eye for detail. They must have knowledge of mathematics and mechanics as well as respect for safety precautions. The goal is to ensure effective machine production operations while optimizing processes. This position offers the ability to perform a wide-range of machining operations with a diverse portfolio of parts manufactured in a fast-paced environment. Must have experience programming from a blueprint at the machine.

Job Tasks:

  • Operate machines, equipment, and tools to meet established shop schedule with the goal of meeting customer requirements
  • Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
  • Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job
  • Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc
  • Monitor machines to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues
  • Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects
  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
  • Perform work safely and follow established work processes/procedures
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience as machinist with know how to program machines from a blueprint
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
  • Good at math with analytical abilities
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items

Credentials and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Use hand welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld together alloy and stainless-steel components and parts or to cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimension, as specified by layouts, work orders, or blueprints.

Job Tasks:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area
  • Weld (16ga-2.5 in) metal parts or components together, using MIG welding equipment
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, uphill or overhead position
  • Review layouts, blueprint, diagrams and procedure sheets in preparation for welding, cutting and fabricating metal components
  • Layout, fit, and tack-weld fabricated components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, tanks, control cabinets, according to blueprints, written, or verbal instructions
  • Positions work pieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtured preparatory to welding
  • Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes and increase size of metal parts (build-up), using welding equipment
  • May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, port-a-power straightening press, and hand tools
  • Clean or degrease parts, using wire brush, portable or belt grinder or solvent
  • Trimming or cutting (hand held) when required via oxy-fuel, power saw or portable power saw
  • Selects and installs torch, torch tip according to thickness of material. Connects and turns regulator valves and adjust gas flows matching tip selection
  • Inspect finished work piece for conformance to specifications of the blueprint
  • Report equipment or safety issues to foreman immediately

Required Knowledge:

  • The safe use of machines and hand and power tools – Including their design, preventive maintenance, and safe storage
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job safely, including proper protection of self and others
  • Knowledge of fundamentals and operation of welding equipment and torches

Required Skills:

  • Performing routine preventative maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly to a maximum of 75 lbs occasionally
  • Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Conducting tests and inspection of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact position
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists
  • Skill to follow and read a blueprint
  • The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials
